Soviet Trucks

It's been a while since I posted some newly completed stuff so today I'd thought I'd post up some Soviet trucks I either built & painted, repainted, or simply fixed up a bit.

I mentioned I recently had an article published in Wargames Soldiers & Strategy Issue 106.  I needed to take some photos for the article so I decided to add a few new vehicles and tried to make a couple of old vehicles look a bit more realistic.

Just over 3 years ago (hard to believe) I bought this Fabbri MAZ 535-A Artillery Truck:

Obviously I didn't want something that wouldn't have looked out of place in a May Day Parade for my photo which was supposed to be in the middle of a war in Norway.  So I repainted it.

That looks a bit better to me

I also had a what I think was a Trumpeter Jiafeng CA-30 fuel tanker which was part of a large swap I did years ago.  It had no instructions - but fortunately also came with Soviet markings.  Well it is an exact copy of a Zil-157 fuel truck.  So I built and painted it to provide fuel for the generators of my SAM Battery.

Sadly the decals were 20+ years old I reckon so they fell apart as I applied them.  All I was able to salvage is what you can see and there is a bit of silvering.

Finally I had ICM Ural Command Vehicle that I built here 10 years ago (geez) and it was very clean so I tried to weather it a little with a couple of new techniques (new to me anyway).  Here's how it came out:

So all in all I'm pretty happy with that lot.

Thanks

Fabbri Soviet MAZ-535A Artillery Truck

Just a quick update this week.  It's been very busy here and in preparation for having friends over for Christmas I've had to drop WW3 painting and do something a little bit different for a change.  So I've been slamming my way through the contents of Fantasy Flight Games Imperial Assault, trying to get all the figures painted before we can get in a Christmas marathon of IA games.  With a marathon hopefully meaning more than 1 game!

Anyway... I found I had taken a couple of photos of another Fabbri diecast vehicle I got a while back, which I had not posted up so I thought I would share it now:

This is actually a pretty nice vehicle.  I've seen someone dirty their's up a bit and it looks even better.  I might try and pick up another one down the track.

So that's it for today, and being realistic, quite possibly it for 2017.  As always my plans for the year heavily outweighed my achievements, but I moved a few projects further along the track so all in all I'm pretty happy with the year.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a great 2018.  I'm thinking 2018 may turn out to be a pretty special year for me.

Thanks - and happy holidays!

Fabbri M-60 MBT

So - once again I've been busy with other stuff so my updating has been more than a little slack.  Today's simple update is from some photos taken weeks ago, but I have made some new (worthwhile) purchases lately that I'll share as soon as I get around to taking some photos.

Anyway - amongst all the Fabbri Soviet kits I got recently I also managed to snag a couple of US M-60 tanks - rather nicely decked out in a MERDC paint scheme which I'll be able to use for my other S&S Models M-60s.

Here they are:

So - as you can see a pretty solid model with a decent paint job.  Not going to win any modelling medals but nor am I!  So I'm pretty happy with that to be honest.

Off I go again...

Fabbri BTR-60PB

Next up on the Soviet vehicles list is the Fabbri BTR-60PB.

As you can see it's not the greatest BTR-60 when it comes to crisp detail, and I'll need to paint it (eventually), but if you are looking for a good cheap way to expand your BTR-60s these are pretty hard to go past.  I have 3 now and perhaps one more on the way...  Sucker that I am...

Thanks

Fabbri BM-21 Grad MRL

Keeping to the Multiple Rocket Launcher theme here are the photos of the Fabbri BM-21 Grad MRL.

This one will require a little more work to fit in with the rest of my Soviet stuff (which is just plain old green) and I'll need to get rid of the Russian flag.  Can't have my Soviets driving around sporting Russian flags can I!

Still it's a nice solid model - unfortunately you can't pivot the launcher - but I think it looks pretty good.

Thanks

Fabbri BM-27 Uragan MRL

I've recently acquired some vehicles from the Russian Fabbri company, which for something different this weeks I thought I could go through with you and show some pics so you could get an idea as to whether or not they are worth it.

I decided to start off with the Fabbri BM-27 Uragan Multiple Rocket Launcher:

This is a pretty good diecast model and will take very little effort to get onto the table - or perhaps in reality sit off the table to remind me I have some Artillery support there.  A bit of a wash, some dry-brushing and some weathering product on the wheels and it will be good to go.  So I'm pretty happy with that one.

Thanks

Richard
